Bill Orscheln
1 Year with Stuppy

Bill Orscheln Hello to the Stuppy Greenhouse family, My name is Bill Orscheln and I’m incredibly honored to be the Territory Sales Coordinator on board. I knew this was the right place for me the minute Matt Stuppy shook my hand and told me he’d just gotten back from an afternoon of grilling. Growing up in a household that bleeds black and gold, it was a bold decision to take the higher road to Lawrence, and I’m happy to call myself a recent graduate of the University of Kansas’ School of Business where I majored in Finance with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. The Orscheln name is no stranger to family business, and I’m looking forward to working with all of you as we strive to make Stuppy Greenhouse Solutions the industry leader in greenhouse design, manufacturing and construction.

A native of Kansas City, I spent my childhood building tree-houses, playing football or golf and waiting for turkey season to come around. After four years at Rockhurst High School, where I started and grew a lawn care business and became familiar with the Ward Parkway Lanes, I headed to Lawrence and joined the Sigma Chi fraternity, serving as the social chair. My propensity for cleanliness is a trait I adopted from a long line of women who put Martha Stewart to shame; and I hope to carry my organizational skills as well as my ability to fix anything with a hammer and some duct tape, into my new position here at Stuppy. I also learned how to cook about anything you can imagine on a grill or smoker from my father.

If I’m not in a duck blind or deer stand, you can probably find me listening to Toby Keith or spending time with my girlfriend, fraternity brothers and/or my very large German-Catholic family. While none of these activities are mutually exclusive, summers away from college included working for both my dad and uncle’s companies. At Mid-America Ice Cream I helped in the process of growing a new
soft serve ice cream concept into a nationally recognized product. Warehouse management and sales became specialties of mine as I traveled around the Midwest selling, assembling and teaching everything from Toro to Coleman product lines. If there’s hard labor to be had, my sister is probably putting me in charge of it.

I am excited to be a part of a long line of success here at Stuppy. I cannot wait to get a chance to get to know each and every one of you as I grow into my position as the new sales apprentice. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work for a company that honors integrity and the same family values I have learned to hold as true.

Vicky Wantland - Territory Sales Coordinator
38 Years with Stuppy
Extension 3721

Vicky Wantland When her son was nine months old, Vicky decided it was time to return to the work force. In October of 1972, she joined the Stuppy organization. She began by assembling watering equipment and packaging nut & bolt boxes for 18' wide and 30' wide greenhouse structures. At the time, those were the only two sizes of greenhouses that Stuppy offered. By moving around in various positions within the warehouse, Vicky taught herself about the operation of the greenhouse equipment. In 1977, a position in greenhouse sales was made available. "Frank Stuppy and Linda Barnett brought me into the sales department. They taught me that the customer is always right. I've always tried to be the best help to our customers. Another thing that Frank taught me is that we are all in this together. Our sales staff has changed over the years but everyone has always been available to help each other in more ways than one in whatever is needed. I am now working with the third generation of Stuppy's since my beginning. Change is always required to keep ahead in the business. It is amazing how we have evolved over the years," Vicky Wantland.

As Vicky begins her thirty-fifth year at Stuppy, she is now the proud grandmother of two and enjoys every moment that she spends with them. She also spends time at local stock car track with her husband as well as time walking, reading, and sewing.

Stephanie Burchette

Stephanie Burchette My name is Stephanie Burchette and I joined Stuppy Inc as part of the Midwest sales team. Growing up and attending high school in what was then a small town of Smithville, MO I was very active in sports. This played a part in my competitive nature and continuing desire to strive to be the best in everything I do. I have always been the tomboy working on cars, street races and mud runs. I trained horses for barrel racing for a few years as well.

After high school I jumped right into the work force, decided I had enough of test to hold me over for a life time. Though not attending college I have gained a lot of hands on experience. My background in various industries has been in sales, commercial project management and MRO buyer. The wide range of duties in the professional field has helped me see both sides of business needs and concerns. I have a very cut to the chase personality when it comes to life and business. I look forwarding to working with the Stuppy team in providing the best customer service possible.

Jerry Hains - Territory Sales Manager
17 Years with Stuppy
Extension 2009

Jerry Hains Jerry Hains began his career at Stuppy in 1993 but he was certainly not new to the horticulture field. Jerry's grandfather was in the growing business for nearly eighty years. The family operation was expanded in 1915 when Jerry's father along with his grandfather purchased an existing greenhouse/florist business. Ever since Jerry was a young child, he could always be found in the greenhouses causing some sort of mischief with the staff.

Stuppy Greenhouse is a name that Jerry knows quite well as the greenhouses built for their business after 1972 were all Stuppy houses. Parts of the family business are still in operation today. When the sales position became, it seemed a natural transition for Jerry to make. Jerry covers the states of Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico.

Photography is Jerry's hobby and passion. He enjoys working mostly with digital photography due to being able to work with the photos by cropping and enhancing before printing. However, the real reason that Jerry prefers the digital camera over a film camera is that there is no chance of forgetting that there is not any film in the camera. How does Jerry know this? He has had a couple of moments where he thought there was film in the camera, once even for a wedding that he was shooting for a friend.

Phil Bishop

Phil Bishop What a great company and team to be a part of! I graduated from Kansas State University in 2006 with a degree in Greenhouse Management. I traveled through many of the degrees that KSU offered regarding Horticulture, but found my grounds when I walked into the greenhouses on campus. I immediately looked through the class load and declared my major as Greenhouse Management. Being able to see and have an effect on how plants grow struck a chord within me. I really like the challenge of a career that meshes science and art.

Working for a large bedding plant producer in Manhattan, KS, during college, I became familiar with the great people running and managing greenhouses. There is nothing like walking into a greenhouse and seeing the hustle and bustle of a living and growing factory. Through different class and Kansas Greenhouse Growers Association field trips the trend of amazing people at greenhouses across the Midwest kept me focused even during summer classes of Organic Chemistry! I have wanted to become a part of the business and at Stuppy, Inc. I have a fantastic opportunity to interact with the highly intelligent and down to earth people running the Greenhouse industry.

Wes Russell - Sales Associate

Wes Russell I was born in Kansas City, Missouri at St. Luke’s hospital. My father is a neurosurgeon and my mother was a nurse. I grew up in Springfield, Illinois and started playing hockey at the age of 6. Hockey was my passion at an early age and I had the dream like many kids playing the sport to make it to the National Hockey League. As I aged I realized this goal would be difficult to obtain, however hockey enabled me to see most of the US and Canada and helped me earn an NCAA Division 1 scholarship at Robert
Morris University in Pittsburgh, PA. I was a 3 year letter winner for the Colonials and was named to the academic all conference team. While in school I worked at the Hyatt regency in Pittsburgh as a bellhop which was an early lesson on the importance of great customer service. I graduated in 2009 with a degree in marketing. After graduation I moved to Kansas City. My first job in the professional world was sales with a window replacement dealer. It was good experience but not a career. Knowing it was a
temporary job I wanted to find something that offered more growth and stability. I was impressed with Stuppy’s commitment to quality and the progressiveness of the company. After meeting Matt Stuppy and Dale Rahn I knew I wanted to work for them.

Away from work I enjoy working out, cooking, and spending my summer weekends at Lake of the Ozarks. I am still very involved in hockey whether it is watching it on TV or skating in the local men’s league.

I am the oldest of 3. My brother Pat works for a news station in Houma, Louisiana, Kevin is a grad student in Chicago, and Sarah is a student at Eastern Illinois.
